Monster making pays off for Madison College graduate

"Tyler is my boss. He's the Chief Fluff Brains and I'm the Chief Monster Maker," said Kaeti Lindquist, explaining how her business is structured. Tyler, the namesake of Lindquist's Tyler Poncho stuffed animal line, is a four-foot tall red stuffed dragon.

Graduating in May from the graphic design program, Lindquist finds herself in a position that most graduates only dream of. The sudden success of Tyler Poncho has her contemplating hiring someone to help her sew so she can keep up with orders from stores and online.

"I wasn't really serious about it at all when I first was doing it, but it was really slow build up until February this year. Now it's more serious and the opportunities keep stacking up," explained Lindquist.

"Kick-Ass," based on a graphic novel of the same name by Mark Millar is a cinematic masterpiece and delivers in full everything a great movie should have: action, humor, romance and a bit of depth. It takes the cliché good-guy-versus-bad-guy formula of a typical superhero tale and turns it on its ear.

Elf Lettuce gathers fans in Madison

A group of students from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point were jamming in their basement when pizza arrived and the deliveryman changed their lives. As it turned out, the man owned a bar and offered what gave Elf Lettuce their first gig in 2004.

After the boys graduated, a couple of the members broke away and moved to Madison in 2006, where they have continued to gather fans and build a repertoire of 40 original songs.

A theme of the student photography display at the Sunroom Cafe on State street was difficult to determine.
Six weeks sober

The stigma surrounding college students is, typically, that we're immature, irresponsible, drunks. Although Madison Area Technical College may be an exception for this mis-informed understanding (after all, UW Madison is the party school of the nation…) there might be some arguable truth to this statement. In the college student's defense, I think we're just confused.

About two months ago, I was one of the students described above, unfortunately, even to an extreme. It was much easier to indulge in the stigma, then fight it. I decided to take six weeks off from drinking alcohol for lent.

As I sit here and ponder what this, my last foreseeable article, will be about, a million questions flood my mind. Oddly enough, most have nothing to do about the impending article. They are thoughts about how I have gotten this far, though most times it feels as if I haven't gotten anywhere.

This just in: hundreds of notable conservatives, some of the same politicians and talking heads that would eschew Darwin as an evil atheist, take their economic lead from a well-known atheist.

I know, it's an inflammatory opening paragraph but it is true.
